This is how the weekend should be!

There is never a dull moment in Sydney, especially during the weekend.

Neither Charity nor I have class on Fridays, which is great. We decided this past Friday to head to Coogee Beach. Since it is the end of summer we figured that we should go as often as possible since the weather will start to change soon. Unfortunately it was cooler and cloudy on Friday, but we still went. The beach was dead! A total change from the last time I was there. It was so beautiful and peaceful though. We had lunch at a little cafe, and had 30 cent ice cream cones from McDonalds (the best discovery ever). Sadly it started to rain so we had to head back. Hopefully we'll go back once a week or so.

On Saturday IES had a 'field trip' to the Sydney Opera House. Our group was taken on a tour of the inside. It wasn't as ugly as I was expecting it to be, but its pretty cool. The outside is definitely nicer. After the tour I had dinner at a cute little cafe that overlooked the harbor bridge- it was beautiful! That night we went to see Floating, a contemporary English comedy. It was a ton of fun! There were only 2 actors and they did a lot of crowd participation/interaction, so it was unlike any show I've seen before. Australians are known for being late (its the laid back atmoshpere) and the actors thought that this was soo interesting. So, they told the audience to stand and applaud to each person who came in late. It happened like 3 or 4 times! How embarrassing for the late comers! The show was really fun though and it was a great first experience at the Opera House.

On Sunday, Sydney had a St. Patrick's Day Parade and I went with Charity and our friend Nate. It was not as entertaining as the Mardi Gras Parade, but it was still fun to watch. It was hot and sunny, which is usually not how the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Cleveland is! Afterward, we went to the Botanic Gardens for a picnic with some people that Charity and Nate know from choir. It was nice to relax and enjoy the weather. There are a ton of bats that live in the Botanic Gardens, and they are really huge and really scary!

After the picnic the three of us went to the Pylon Tower museum. It is located in the pylon that is at the south end of the Harbor Bridge. It has a small exhibit about the creation of the bridge, but there is an observation deck at the top. You get a great view of the skyline, the Opera House, the rest of Sydney, and the bridge. It was very beautiful and we had a ton of fun taking pictures.

When we were done we walked around an area of town called The Rocks. It is an older part of town and has a more European type of feel. There was a big market there but it had started to rain so many of the venders began to close their booths (plus it was after 5pm). The three of us got free chocolate covered strawberries and bananas on a stick! It was a great way to end a fabulous weekend.

Here are pictures from everything I did the last few days:

I am really looking forward to Melbourne next weekend, it should be a ton of fun!

Love,
Becky
